HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
About Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities. From September 15 to October 15, we commemorate how those communities have influenced and contributed to American society.
It began as a commemorative week
It was first introduced in June of 1968 by California Congressman George E. Brown. The push to recognize the contributions of the Latinx community had gained momentum throughout the 1960s when the civil rights movement was at its peak and there was a growing awareness of the United States' multicultural identities.

Sign up for a Clay Handbuilding class
DC-based, Mexican artist, Mia Angel of Encántaro Cerámica joins Paraíso Taqueria to guide an evening of handbuilding with clay. Handbuilding is the slow and meditative process of manipulating clay with just your hands and a few basic tools.
During this 2.5-hour workshop, you will learn and practice three essential techniques: pinching, coiling, and slab-building. This process allows you to experiment, create your very own art pieces, and establish a strong foundation for future clay endeavors.
No previous art or clay experience is necessary, just come prepared to get a little dirty (dress as you would to cook or workout.) By yourself, with a loved one, or a group of friends, this is certain to be a relaxing and creative evening.
All materials are provided and participants can pick one of their pieces to be glazed and fired, if desired. Pieces available for pick-up after approximately 2 weeks after the workshop.
